More than £100,000 donated to Ukraine thanks to Leeds BS colleagues and members

More than £100,000 has been donated to the Ukraine relief effort thanks to generosity of Leeds Building Society colleagues and members.

The generosity of colleagues and members of Leeds Building Society has led to a donation of more than £100,000 to Ukraine relief and refugee charities.

Fundraising and donations were topped up with matched funding from the Society, to take the total to £108,283, the bulk of which is being sent to the Disasters Emergency Committee appeal.

A £10,000 donation direct to Leeds Together for Ukraine will support the initiative co-ordinated by Leeds City Council to house and settle Ukrainian refugees in the Society’s home city.

Richard Fearon, chief executive officer of Leeds Building Society, thanked all those who had responded with compassion and generosity to the humanitarian crisis.

“When we announced our intention to help, our members and colleagues stepped forward swiftly, as we knew they would,” said Fearon.

“I want to thank everyone who has come together to support this appeal for relief efforts in Ukraine and also to help Ukrainian refugees in the UK.”

In addition to fundraising, works are progressing to redevelop vacant office space above the Society’s branch in Peterborough, for use as emergency accommodation.
