Saffron wins building society of the year

Saffron Building Society is celebrating today after it won Building Society of the Year at the Mortgage Awards 2022 by MoneyAge.

Saffron was shortlisted for the award, competing against four other regional peers the Darlington, Dudley, Cambridge, and Melton Building Societies to win victorious at the glittering ceremony at the Waldorf Hilton, London last night.

The accolade comes on the same week the mutual launched a new broker initiative, Intermediar-ease.

The bold new activity is designed to offer brokers more open and honest discussion about the society’s service standards and hold the Saffron for Intermediaries team to account.

Tony Hall, head of mortgage sales at Saffron, said: “I am delighted to scoop the most important award of the night for us.

“The Building Society of the Year award goes to prove that the hard work we have done as a society to improve our service standards, communication with brokers, and adapt our products to the ever-changing market has been acknowledged.

“This could not be better timing as our broker initiative, Intermediar-ease, launched this week, where we are giving brokers more opportunities to hold us to account and tell us where we can do better. We have been listening to our broker partners to get this far, but now we are doing this openly and transparently.

“To win this award now is so gratifying when we have only just begun the next step on our journey of continuous improvement. The whole team are ecstatic to add yet another trophy to the cabinet.”

2021 saw Saffron increase their intermediary support team grow from two full and one part-time team member to eleven.

This includes three field-based BDMs who share local responsibility for the north and south of the country, as well as an increase in the telephone support team.

The live chat function on the Saffron for Intermediaries website has opened a flexible and convenient way to communicate with the team.

Affordability calculators are now available on a wide range of mortgages, and the SFI LIVE and SFI (not so) LIVE continue to go from strength to strength as both educational and entertaining content for brokers.
