Meet Rachael Panteney of Willow Tree Financial Services

Tell us about your business?

Willow Tree Financial Services is a family focused financial planning business. I started Willow Tree in 2014, having previously worked as a mortgage broker since 2005 and then qualifying as a financial adviser in 2012.

Where are you based and where do you operate geographically?

The office is in Polegate, just outside Eastbourne, East Sussex. Historically, we only saw clients from the local area, however, since Covid took everything online and, with the use of social media, we now have clients right across the country. 

What are the main issues impacting your local market?

Supply and demand. There are more buyers than there are houses which is keeping the property prices inflated and my clients report there are still several buyers all offering on the same property. 

What challenges are you facing as a broker?

The biggest challenge is, actually, the lenders. The lack of notice for rate changes is frustrating, as well as the time it takes to speak to brokers’ support about tricky-to-place cases.

What are the main opportunities for brokers in your area and nationally?

Now, more than ever, consumers will need financial advice to see them through these tricky times. Our focus is on remortgages to ensure that we don’t lose any direct-to-lenders opportunities, as well as, carrying out full reviews for our clients and not neglecting protection, GI, and Will writing.

We do have the additional benefit of being able to provide wealth advice to clients for an additional income stream, but our focus is on maximizing our existing clients.

What could lenders do to help further your business?

Train their staff! Twice this week, we have been given incorrect information when speaking to lenders pre-submission and only once the case gets through to underwriting, we find out the information is incorrect, which not only lets down our clients but makes us look like fools. 

What sets you apart from the competition?

I don’t believe in a transactional approach. It is our goal that once a prospect becomes a Willow Tree client, they are with us for life.

We get to know our clients and their dreams and aspirations become ours as well. We are honoured and thankful for the trust they place in us as they allow us to guide them through their journey towards their desired outcome.
