Simon Clarke out as Housing Secretary

Simon Clarke has left his role as Secretary of State for Levelling up, Housing and Communities.

The move comes as Sunak builds his cabinet following his success in the Conservative party leadership race.

Clarke had backed former Prime Minister Boris Johnson to return and replace Liz Truss before he dropped out of the running.

He then switched allegiance to Sunak but it appears the late show of loyalty was not enough to keep Clarke in his role.

Clarke was also a prominent supporter of Liz Truss during the leadership contest during the summer against the now Prime Minister.

The MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland was the third Housing Secretary of 2022 and spent just 49 days in office.

A replacement has yet to be confirmed.
