Prime Minister Liz Truss has confirmed that the Government will fulfil its 2019 manifesto pledge to end Section 21 no-fault evictions.
At Prime Minister’s Questions earlier today Labour MP Graham Stringer asked Truss if the Government was planning a U-turn on its pledge.
However, Truss confirmed that the Government would maintain its commitment to banning such evictions.
Rumours that the Government was going to backtrack had been met with scorn from housing charities and the decision to maintain its commitment has been welcomed by lender Nationwide.
Rachael Sinclair, Nationwide’s director of mortgages and Financial Wellbeing, said: “It is encouraging to have received reinforced commitment from the Prime Minister that the ban on no-fault evictions will proceed.
“We look forward to working with Government and others to deliver this reform although still seek clarity on the future of the remaining proposals outlined in the Fairer Private Rented Sector white paper.
“At a time many households are struggling, renters and landlords deserve clarity on this issue and we look forward to this being implemented as soon as practical.”
