With the cost of Christmas dinner set to rise by 22% this year, Skipton Building Society is donating £50,000 to 100 foodbanks across the UK to help them support their wider communities.
With cost-of-living concerns, inflation at its highest in forty years, and some of the population forced to decide whether to keep their homes warm or feed themselves, it’s easy to see why demand at foodbanks is growing and why foodbanks in turn require such vital support at this time.
Recent research from the Trussell Trust shows a huge accelerated demand in those needing emergency food parcels in the past year, with over 2.1 million food parcels being distributed in the UK and alarmingly 830,000 being provided for children.
Understandably, some Foodbanks have said that they are struggling, though all are doing incredible work to try to stay ahead of demand.
Stacey Dickens, head of sustainability at Skipton Building Society, said: “At Skipton, we are delighted to support the fantastic work that foodbanks carry out day in and day out.
“We are passionate about helping the communities in which we operate, and at Christmas, somehow that just feels more important than ever and we hope that Skipton’s donations make a difference to the communities across England, Wales and Scotland.
“We’re delighted to be able to provide this help, and hope that it makes the Festive season a better, and as enjoyable time as it should be, for many.”
Skipton Building Society has worked closely with onHand, a volunteering and corporate giving platform to help identify Foodbanks across the country that need support and fulfil the donations.
Sanjay, Lobo, CEO of onHand, added: “We’re delighted to help Skipton Building Society place donations into the hands of those who need it most.
“Via our huge nationwide charity network, we’re uniquely placed to help businesses distribute financial donations and grants.”
