Propertymark has hailed Welsh Minister for Climate Change Julie James’s introduction of The National Empty Homes Grant Scheme, which was published yesterday, January 30th 2023.
With more than 22,000 properties currently empty in Wales, the Scheme hopes to allocate £50m in Wales to bring more empty properties into use.
The Scheme hopes to provide home owners a grant of up to £25,000 in order to improve the safety and energy efficiency of the once derelict property, thus incentivising many people to bring these abandoned properties back to market.
In response to the £50m scheme to bring empty homes back to life, Propertymark head of policy and campaigns Timothy Douglas, said: “We are pleased to see £50m has been designated to bringing empty homes back to life in Wales.
“This is something Propertymark has campaigned for as it will allow communities to bring desperately needed, unoccupied properties back into use.
“Wales also has the oldest housing stock, so it’s good to see recognition of the need for funding to improve energy efficiency in residential homes.”
