Aviva pays over £1bn in individual protection claims for third consecutive year

Aviva has paid over £1bn in individual protection claims for the third consecutive year, with 98.3% of all individual protection claims paid last year.

Over the last five years, Aviva has paid out more than £5.1bn across 200,000 claims.

In 2022, Aviva paid more than 50,000 individual protection claims, supporting customers and their families during their time of need, across life insurance, critical illness, income protection, and other individual protection policies.

Jacqueline Kerwood, claims philosophy manager at Aviva, said: “Over the last five years, we have paid over £5.1bn across more than 200,000 individual protection claims, supporting UK families during the most difficult times.”

Kerwood added that Aviva is focused on going above and beyond customers’ expectations and providing first-class claims services, resulting in outstanding customer satisfaction scores.

In 2022, life insurance claims accounted for more than £683m paid out across 41,000 claims, with a 99.4% acceptance rate.

Critical illness claims rose, paying out more than £334m to customers diagnosed with a defined critical illness, while over £50m was paid out in income protection benefit.

The data also revealed that 82% of income protection customers receiving early intervention support returned to their usual role and working hours.
