Mortgage Climate Action Group to host webinar on energy efficiency with industry experts

The Mortgage Climate Action Group has announced its latest green-focused webinar on energy efficiency.

The event, titled “The Challenges of Greening Housing Stock: Valuations, Lending & Retrofitting,” will take place on Monday 20th March from 1 pm to 2 pm and will bring together a range of industry experts to discuss how to make existing properties more energy efficient, with a focus on energy performance certifications (EPC) and retrofit.

Speakers will include Simon Jackson, managing director at Sesame Bankhall Valuation Services, Jennifer Lloyd, head of mortgage products at Skipton Building Society, and Neil Sampson, chief product and innovation officer and Joe Webb, chief growth officer at retrofit explorer solution Kamma.

The Mortgage Climate Action Group was founded in April 2022 and is made up of the leading distributors in the UK mortgage market.

The group has been working with the Association of Mortgage Intermediaries and the Green Finance Institute to address green issues involved in mortgage applications.

This is the group’s third webinar, following its previous event in November 2022. Advisers can register for the event on the Mortgage Climate Action Group’s website.

Stephanie Charman, strategic relationships director, Sesame Bankhall Group, said: “Housing energy efficiency has come into sharp focus over the past year and is becoming a key area property buyers look at when evaluating the worth of a building.

“At the same time, governments are watching closely to see how the UK housing market is progressing with its net-zero commitments.

“EPC ratings are one of the key metrics to measure a property’s efficiency and it’s important we as an industry have a discussion around how this is going to impact valuations going forward and what options are available to retrofit existing buildings to meet these standards.

“Consumers’ interest in this issue is growing and as a result they are increasingly looking for guidance. We look forward to engaging with advisers on these important topics, so they are well-equipped to have those discussions.”

Jonathan Evans, national accounts lead, Skipton Building Society, added: “As part of our Green Mortgage strategy, our vision is to help more people live in greener, more energy efficient homes and one of the ways we aim to help deliver this is by providing educational support.

“We are therefore delighted to be involved in this webinar and look forward to discussing how we are committing to helping our mortgage customers.”
