Principality Building Society adds Shimi Shah to its Board

Principality Building Society has appointed highly experienced financial leader Shimi Shah (pictured) as a non-executive director on its Board.

Shah began her career in project finance with Citigroup, focusing on Africa and Asia, before spending over two decades in venture capital and private equity. She has managed and invested in assets totalling more than $1bn across the UK, US, and Middle East.

Her diverse board experience spans various industry sectors, including The Royal Mint, based in Wales. Shah played a key role in the early stages of BBOXX, a company that has provided energy to more than 300,000 homes in East Africa, benefiting over 1.5 million people.

Sally Jones-Evans, chair of the Board at Principality Building Society, welcomed the appointment, saying: “Shimi has outstanding experience and is an exciting addition to the Board of Principality. As we strive to become a more diverse and inclusive organisation, Shimi brings a wealth of expertise in this area.”

Expressing her excitement at the appointment, Shah said: “It is a privilege to join Principality on its journey to be a more purposeful and inclusive organisation for its members across Wales and the UK. I look forward to contributing to the continued success of growing the business and making a positive impact on our communities.”

The announcement coincided with the departure of Derek Howell, a non-executive director who served on the Board for nine years. Jones-Evans thanked Howell for his contributions, saying, “We would like to thank Derek for all his hard work as a valued member of the Board at Principality and wish him all the best for the future.”
