Barratt extends key worker deposit boost to mark NHS anniversary

Housebuilder Barratt and David Wilson Homes, part of Barratt Developments, has extended its key worker deposit contribution scheme for a further six months, in order to mark the 75th anniversary of the NHS.

Using the scheme, for every £20,000 spent on the purchase of a Barratt home, the business committed to contributing £1,000 towards the deposit of buyers from key worker professions.

For a home costing £325,000, for example, a buyer could qualify for a contribution of £16,250, as well as an added incentive of a contribution to a flooring package which could add up to 1% to the home’s value.

The professions included in the key worker deposit scheme include: NHS, education, police, fire service, Ministry of Defence, environmental services, National Highways, Transport Scotland and Transport for Wales, probation services, local authorities, and prison services.

In addition, the developer has donated £75,000 across three charities: NHS Charities Together, the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, and the Florence Nightingale Foundation.

The scheme originally launched in October 2022, and Barratt and David Wilson Homes reported it has helped approximately 2,000 NHS workers in that time, saving them over £23m.

Steve Mariner, sales and marketing director at Barratt Developments, said: “Our Key Worker Deposit Contribution Scheme has helped 2,000 NHS workers to be able to afford their new home, so what better way to mark the 75th anniversary of the NHS by extending the scheme for another six months.

“The NHS treats over a million people a day and touches all our lives, so we want to say a big thank you to all of our essential frontline workers through this deposit scheme extension and by donating £75,000 in total to NHS Charities Together, The Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Florence Nightingale Foundation.”
