Farage gets apology after Coutts account closure

Nigel Farage has received an apology from Coutts after his account was closed by the NatWest subsidiary.

The former UKIP leader turned news anchor has been calling for Government intervention since his account was closed.

In a letter Alison Rose, CEO of NatWest, apologised to Farage over the account closure.

According to Sky News in the letter, Rose said: “I am writing to apologise for deeply inappropriate comments about yourself made in the now published papers for the wealth committee. I would like to make it clear that they do not reflect the view of the bank.

“I believe very strongly that freedom of expression and access to banking are fundamental to our society and it is absolutely not our policy to exit a customer on the basis of legally held political and personal views.”

Speaking yesterday Farage described the incident as “disgusting” and “abhorrent”, and referred to the dossier he received from Coutts as a “biased, malicious document”.

Farage said: “This is a clear case of the urban elite detesting the perspectives of the multitudes of us who reside beyond the confines of the M25. It’s nothing less than that.

“To be honest, I was taken aback, particularly by the intense hatred conveyed in the document.”

Sky News also reported that the bank has now offered “alternative banking arrangements” at NatWest.
