SME investor Merino Capital has successfully completed the acquisition of independent motorbike dealerships Premier Bikes and Triumph Oxford, with transaction support provided by Shawbrook.
Premier Bikes, a dual Franchised KTM and Triumph motorbike dealership, was established over a quarter-century ago in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. Over the years, the dealership has evolved into one of the UK’s leading KTM and Triumph franchises, offering premium new and used motorbikes to customers nationwide, along with comprehensive after-sales and accessory sales services.
As Triumph and KTM continue their significant investments in the UK market, Premier has established itself as a core partner for both brands in Oxfordshire and neighbouring counties. This partnership has facilitated a considerable growth in sales over the last two years, particularly during the lockdown periods when the demand for motorbikes saw a notable surge.
The recent acquisition of Premier by Merino Capital, facilitated by Shawbrook, allows the previous shareholders to retire from the business. Both Merino and the former shareholders aimed for a seamless transition of ownership, and Shawbrook’s provision of a flexible working capital loan enabled the successful completion of the acquisition.
“We are delighted to complete the acquisition of Premier Bikes and become part of their journey,” commented Mark Colley, managing director at Merino Capital. He lauded Premier’s team as a key player in the motorbike sales market and expressed enthusiasm for supporting their growth journey. Colley also commended Shawbrook’s team for their support and flexibility.
Oliver Sutton, director at Shawbrook, added: “It’s been a pleasure to support Premier Bikes through this acquisition, while continuing our long-standing relationship with Merino.
“Mark and his team have a strong track-record of recognising strong business potential, and this transaction is a prime example.
“The expertise of the businesses is unparalleled, and it was a delight to be able to come to an agreement that worked for all involved. We wish all future success to Merino and Premier.”
