The Scottish Government announced plans to speed up the remediation of unsafe cladding on medium and high-rise residential buildings.
The Cladding Remediation Bill, part of this year’s Programme for Government, will give Ministers the authority to intervene in buildings where cladding poses a life risk.
The bill is intended to support the Cladding Remediation Programme, helping to quicken the pace of safety assessments and repairs.
Ministers are also seeking the ability to create a Building Safety Levy, similar to the UK Government’s version for England, requiring developers to financially contribute to cladding issues.
Housing Minister Paul McLennan said: “We are determined to make sure that buildings with potentially unsafe cladding are assessed and remediated.
“Legislation will help us address barriers to make these fixes more efficiently. It’s also right that developers contribute to the cost of repairs.
“We’re looking to introduce a new Levy on developers to ensure a fair contribution.”
