Legal & General Retail launches CMO report series on protection insurance

Legal & General Retail has initiated a new series of Chief Medical Officer (CMO) reports, aiming to advance the understanding and application of protection insurance in fostering workplace health and wellbeing.

This series seeks to merge the realms of individual and group protection, encouraging a shift in industry perspective towards prevention and early intervention.

Dr. Tarun Gupta, CMO at Legal & General Retail, stressed the potential for positive change, stating: “It’s time for the protection insurance industry to seize this opportunity and work together to help employers and individuals tackle the well-being challenges they face.”

The inaugural report includes insights from Professor Sir Michael Marmot and discusses the benefits of good work on health, the integration of protection insurance into wellbeing strategies, and the necessity of early intervention in health-related work absences.

Vanessa Sallows, claims & governance director, emphasised the importance of elevating industry knowledge and approach: “The protection insurance industry has a strong role to play, but education and understanding about the propositions of today and the future needs to be ramped up to avoid commoditising highly valuable features and benefits.”
