MIMHC: Keeping the mental health conversation going

In the latest of the video series, Jason Berry, co-founder of the Mortgage Industry Mental Health Charter (MIMHC) talks to Jonathan White, UK lender relationship director at Knowledge Bank – one of the co-founders of MIMHC.

In their wide-ranging discussion, White shares his personal approach to maintaining a healthy mental state which stems from his personal experiences in managing his own mental health.

White found that several triggers we responsible for the onset of his depression, which led to him eventually opening up about his struggles and helping him on the path to managing his recovery.

White himself says, “it is never just one thing,” and the triggers for him were a cumulation of the weight of responsibility as a business leader combined with the pressures he was facing in his personal life.

A contributory factor to his illness was also the lack of support he received from his employer at the time, and so White stresses the importance of organisations investing in the development of their managerial emotional intelligence and staff wellbeing programmes.

In forthcoming videos, Berry will be chatting with key figures across the mortgage industry about how they keep the mental health conversation going in their businesses.

MIMHC is a not-for-profit organisation that was founded to raise awareness of employees’ mental health and how the industry can take positive action to improve it.

MIMHC is made up of seven co-founding firms plus more than 100 signatory companies across the mortgage industry, that represent more than 20,000 individuals. All these firms agree to be bound by MIMHC’s six Governing Rules which apply best practice health and wellbeing guidelines and are summarised as ‘The MIMHC Charter’.
