UK Government introduces new cyber security guidelines for business leaders

The UK Government has released a new Code of Practice on cyber security governance, aimed at directors and senior leaders in businesses. This initiative is part of a broader effort to position cyber security on equal footing with other significant business risks, such as financial and legal challenges.

The Code, formulated in collaboration with industry and cyber security experts, advocates for incorporating cyber security into the core strategic framework of businesses. It suggests that directors establish clear roles and responsibilities to strengthen cyber defences.

Viscount Camrose, Minister for AI and Intellectual Property, said: “Cyber attacks are as damaging to organisations as financial and legal pitfalls, so it’s crucial that bosses and directors take a firm grip of their organisation’s cyber security regimes – protecting their customers, workforce, business operations and our wider economy.”

Lindy Cameron, CEO of the National Cyber Security Centre, commented: “Cyber security is no longer a niche subject or just the responsibility of the IT department, so it is vital that CEOs and directors understand the risks to their organisation and how to mitigate potential threats.”
