Brightstar Group marks World Earth Day with innovative green initiatives

The Brightstar Group is set to celebrate World Earth Day today (22nd April) with a series of initiatives aimed at promoting environmental awareness and action within its team.

This follows its successful certification as a Carbon Neutral Business in 2023 by Carbon Neutral Britain, which involved offsetting its carbon emissions through the Woodland Fund Portfolio and receiving a Carbon Reduction Plan (CRP) to reduce future emissions.

Carbon Neutral Britain, established in 2020, supports UK individuals and businesses in addressing climate change.

The organisation has made significant environmental impacts by offsetting over 500,000 tonnes of CO₂ and planting more than three million trees.

A year after achieving carbon neutrality, the Brightstar Group has implemented several effective changes, including a car-sharing project, paperless meetings, and energy reduction strategies in its offices. The People Development Team has transitioned to ‘e portfolio’ systems, significantly cutting down on paper usage.

The 2024 World Earth Day activities, organized by the Group’s Carbon Neutral Team, include educational sessions and a competition named ‘Make a Meal for Earth Day’.

Teams will grow their own vegetables, fruits, and herbs for a Grand Picnic Lunch planned for late summer, with prizes for the largest produce and best recipes. These activities emphasise the importance of local and organic produce to reduce carbon footprints.

Furthermore, the Group is shifting its internet searches from Google to Ecosia, a search engine that funds tree planting and eco-projects with its ad revenue, demonstrating how everyday tools can support environmental efforts.

Will Lloyd Hayward, chief operating officer of the Brightstar Group, said: “The Brightstar Group takes its corporate and social responsibility very seriously indeed, leading by example to promote positive change within our industry and our wider society.

“Whilst achieving carbon neutral certification was important to us, it was only the first step of our ongoing commitment to monitoring and minimising the impact of our business and we have thought of practical and inventive ways to achieve this.

“We hope that the actions that we have taken for Earth Day 2024 will not only help to raise awareness and bring about positive change, but will also encourage other businesses across the sector to follow suit.”
