Isles of Scilly tops list of least energy-efficient areas

The Isles of Scilly has been named as the area with the least energy efficient properties, new research by Enviro Homes Renewables has revealed.

Enviro Homes Renewables analysed the latest Office for National Statistics data to pinpoint the areas in England with the least energy-efficient homes.

Situated off the coast of Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly claimed the unfortunate distinction of having the lowest proportion of energy-efficient homes in England.

The analysis reveals that as of 2022, only 14.09% of homes in the area boasted an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of Band ‘C’ or higher.

Following closely behind, Pendle in Lancashire occupied the second spot on the list, with 21.83% of its homes achieving an EPC rating of Band ‘C’ or better.

Meanwhile, Castle Point, located in the southern reaches of Essex, secured the third position, with just 24.84% of its residential properties meeting the same energy efficiency standard.

Further analysis also revealed Burnley, also situated in Lancashire, as the fourth entry on the list, with a mere 25.10% of its homes meeting the Band ‘C’ or above benchmark.

Rounding out the top five was Hyndburn, another Lancashire locale, where only 25.38% of homes attained the desired energy efficiency rating in 2022.

Ross Jones, director Of Enviro Homes Renewables, said: “While there are many ways you can save money on energy for your home, having a low energy efficiency rating can make this very difficult from the start, and costs will add up, and with the current cost of living this can be a serious problem.

“However, if you live in one of these areas, you can improve your EPC rating by installing insulation, changing your lighting, replacing your boiler, and more.”
