Family Building Society celebrates 10th anniversary

The Family Building Society is celebrating its 10 year anniversary this weekend, having launched on the 14th of July 2014.

Since then, the mutual building society has more than doubled the amount lent to borrowers to enable them to buy a home.

Other milestones reached by the Family Building Society included introducing a charity volunteer day for all staff in 2017, being recognised with more than 50 industry awards, and launching the Windfall Bond in October 2014, which to date has paid out over £5.1m in prizes.

The society also grew its membership to over 63,000 as of this year.

Mark Bogard, chief executive at Family Building Society, said: “When we started, I was a bit worried that some families really don’t like each other!

“But despite the inevitable tensions here and there, most families get along pretty well and know that they have to work together across the generations to help each other and make the most of their money.

“Launching anything new is always pretty hairy and you just don’t know if it’ll succeed. We have succeeded.

“We have grown, got more customers, improved what we do and we still treat people as individuals, which is what they want, something that is getting rarer and rarer nowadays.

“Our biggest opportunity is that lots of people still haven’t heard of us!”
