Lack of speed and efficiency among top homeseller complaints, study finds

New research from Home Sale Pack has revealed that a lack of speed, efficiency and urgency are the biggest pain points being reported by homesellers.

Home Sale Pack commissioned a survey of 1,019 home sellers who have sold in the past three years to find out the biggest issues they faced on their selling journey.

The biggest pain point faced by home sellers was a slow conveyancing process, reported by 30% of recent sellers.

One significant part of conveyancing is the Local Authority Search, in which all of the vital information about a property and its surroundings must be collected by the relevant local authority, taking an average of two weeks to complete.

According to the research, in some cases the amount of time it took to complete a search increased by 933% to take as long as 62 days.

Another significant pain point for sellers was slow estate agents, as was reported by 19% of recent sellers.

In addition, 12% of sellers said that poor communication from the buyer and their professionals was a major obstacle to an efficient sale, while 11% of sellers reported frustration around delays caused by chains.

Ruth Beeton, co-founder of Home Sale Pack, said: “Selling a home takes far too long. And more often than not, the reason for this is unnecessary inefficiencies within the selling and buying process.

“Most of these inefficiencies are the result of archaic practices that have remained the same for decades despite the introduction of sophisticated tech innovations that can eliminate inefficiency with minimal additional cost to either the buyer, seller, estate agent, or conveyancer.

“We, alongside many other great companies in the residential property space, are dedicated to dragging the industry into the modern world, urging them to use simple but powerful tech solutions that will benefit everyone involved by making buying and selling easier and faster.”

She added: “The good news is that an increasing number of property professionals are now adopting these solutions, so we fully expect the coming years to see a huge reduction in the amount of time it takes to sell a home.”
