Colleagues from Metro Bank’s product team recently volunteered at Cemetery Park Lodge to help maintain the historic cemetery at the heart of its local community.
The work was part of Metro Bank’s ‘Day to Amaze’ initiative, which provides employees with a paid day off to support a local charity or good cause.
They worked in support of Friends of Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park, an independent charity that looks after Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park.
The colleagues tackled overgrown brambles and cleared ivy from around the monuments to help preserve the cemetery’s history while ensuring the heritage trails remain intact for visitors.
Ian Jackson, Metro Bank’s director of bank account, payments and deposits, said: “This wasn’t just any day, it was a ground-breaking experience in more ways than one.
“It was amazing to see how much history we could unearth – literally – and the important role conservation plays in keeping these stories alive.”
