MSP beach volleyball tournament raises record £20,000 for charity

MSP Capital’s beach volleyball tournament on Bournemouth beach has raised a record £20,000 for two hospice charities.

This was the third consecutive year the company organised the event to support Julia’s House and Lewis-Manning Hospice Care.

The tournament saw 32 teams compete, an increase from 22 last year and 10 teams in 2022.

Participants included law firms, property developers, recruitment specialists, and estate agents.

Despite the rainy weather, mixed six-a-side teams played 10-minute matches across four courts.

The top teams advanced to a knockout stage, culminating in a tight final between the accounting firm RSM and MSP Capital, which reached the finals for the second year in a row. MSP Capital narrowly won with a score of 18-17.

The £20,000 raised will be split equally between the two charities.

Caroline Attreed, corporate fundraiser for Julia’s House, said: “The amount raised is absolutely incredible and will make a massive difference.

“Only [8%] of our funding comes from Government, so we rely on donations and fundraising days like today.”

Fiona Harwood, corporate partnerships manager at Lewis-Manning, said: “As a charity based in Poole, we are so grateful to MSP Capital for their support.

“The funds will help families and patients at our day hospice and hubs in Bournemouth, Poole, and Purbeck, covering vital services like family support and bereavement teams.”

The annual event is part of MSP Capital’s community commitment and ESG strategy, Foundations for Better Futures, which focuses on supporting local charities and team wellbeing initiatives.

Paul Miracca, joint managing director at MSP Capital, said: “We aimed to make this year’s event bigger and better, and once again, we had a fantastic competition.

“The British weather didn’t dampen spirits, and the glow of sporting participation will continue to support the charities.”

Darren Slater, accounting and insight director at RSM, said: “We thank the organisers for a great day for fantastic causes.”

Eleanor Collins, an event organiser from MSP Capital, added: “The tournament was a great way for businesses to network and support two brilliant local causes.”

Beach volleyball specialists Deep Dish helped organise the event, providing a compere, referees, and a DJ.

Jake Sheaf from Deep Dish said, “I admire how much MSP Capital does for the charities they work with.

“The atmosphere was amazing, and everyone enjoyed bonding as teams while raising significant funds for important causes.”
