A team from The Cambridge Building Society is preparing to take on the challenge of the Cambridge Half Marathon, raising vital funds for the Cambridgeshire Community Foundation (CCF).
CCF provides grants to local projects that address key community challenges, such as loneliness, access to education, and heating support during winter. Since its inception, the charity has awarded over £32m to thousands of initiatives across Cambridgeshire, ensuring that most, if not all, residents have benefited from its work.
The Cambridge team includes Holly Smith, customer engagement team lead, and her partner Joseph Farrow, as well as Joe Stack, systems expert, and Hannah Stead, content coordinator. They will take on the 13.1-mile course around Cambridge on 9 March to support CCF’s mission.
Hannah said: “Running the Cambridge Half Marathon is always a great event and a chance to challenge myself. This time around, I’m running it for CCF and a brilliant way to make a real difference in our community. Knowing our efforts will support vital projects makes it all worth it. The sense of teamwork and purpose keeps us motivated throughout training, especially when the weather isn’t always on your side. It’s inspiring to know we’re running for something bigger than ourselves.”
Joe added: “While the training has been tough, the cause makes it all worth it. Being part of a team that’s dedicated to giving back to the community pushes me to go that extra mile. literally! The funds we raise will help those facing real challenges, and that’s something I’m incredibly proud to support.”
Holly shared: “The Cambridgeshire Community Foundation does such important work, and every donation will go towards making a real impact. I can’t wait to cross the finish line knowing we’ve made a difference.”
Julia Cieslak, marketing and communications officer at CCF, said: “Fundraising events like this are crucial in ensuring we can continue to provide grants to local causes. The dedication of The Cambridge Building Society team helps us to reach more people in need and strengthen our community support.”

Beyond fundraising, The Cambridge Building Society also operates its own Community Fund, managed by CCF. This initiative provides grants of up to £10,000 to local charities, community groups, and organisations within a 15-mile radius of The Cambridge’s branch and store network. The Community Fund accepts applications twice a year, with the latest round now open.
