Newmark expands PBSA team with key appointments

Newmark Group, Inc. has appointed Andrew Smith and Harriet Bantock to their purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) multifamily capital markets team in London as a senior leader and senior associate.

Smith was previously head of student accommodation at Cushman & Wakefield.

He participated in the sale of Pavilion Court in Wembley for DWS and handled Scape Dublin, noted as Ireland’s largest student accommodation deal since 2022.

Bantock also contributed to the Scape Dublin sale and has been involved in over €600m (around £502m) worth of student accommodation transactions in Spain and Ireland.

Smith said: “This is a very exciting time to join Newmark as it strengthens its presence in the UK and across Europe.

“There remains a lack of quality PBSA stock, so the markets are behaving with more nuance than ever.

“Whilst there are new risks in the form of building safety and changing international student trends, there are huge opportunities for PBSA to answer to the housing demand in the UK.”

Smith added: “With our growing team bringing together best-in-class specialists in the sector, Newmark is well placed to advise clients on how to capitalise on these opportunities.”
