Survey Shack reaches 1,000 downloads as early surveys cut deal failures

Survey Shack, a home-based surveying app launched in October 2024, has reached 1,000 downloads.

The app was set up by qualified surveyor Brett Ray to give homeowners and buyers a clearer idea of a property’s condition earlier in the process.

Ray said: “One of the most frustrating parts of working in surveying is watching around 25% of transactions fall through because of issues identified during surveys.

“The transactions fall apart not because homes are unsellable, but because the problems surface too late. That’s why we built Survey Shack – to flag issues cost-effectively at an earlier stage.

“Sellers and buyers can then move forward with clearer expectations, saving time, stress and money for all parties.”

Survey Shack’s main product is its ‘Do It Yourself Report’, which gives users an interactive property assessment through the app.

After inspection, users get a report with clear recommendations, suggested remedial actions, and referrals to specialists if more checks are needed.

The premium package also includes a ‘Data Report’ covering local information like surface water risk, radon gas levels, and planning history.

Buyers and sellers have both used the app, with uptake split 51% buyers to 49% homeowners across the UK.

The service aims to reduce confusion in the process and give both sides more clarity.

Ray said: “We wanted to create a straightforward, rapid and easily accessible way to assess a property’s condition.

“Survey Shack does precisely that, reducing risk for both sellers and buyers.”
