Nottingham Building Society has opened a new flagship branch in Nottingham City Centre, marking its first new branch in eight years.
Located on Clumber Street, the new site replaces the society’s former Upper Parliament Street location, which served customers for more than 50 years.
The move comes as part of the mutual’s wider transformation strategy, which includes refocusing as a specialist residential lender, commitment to serving its savings customers via branch and digital and the rollout of a refreshed brand identity launched in 2024.
The society has also launched a limited-time savings product linked to Emmanuel House, its charity partner focused on tackling homelessness.
Proceeds from product uptake will directly support the organisation’s community services.
The upgraded space includes flexible consultation zones and open-plan layouts, improved accessibility and integration of digital and analogue service options.
The branch also features a specially commissioned and exclusive mural created by Nottingham-based illustrator Emmy Lupin.
Sue Hayes, chief executive officer at Nottingham Building Society, said: “While many institutions are scaling back physical presence, we remain committed to a modernised, member-focused branch network.
“This opening brings our new brand identity to life in a tangible way – built around the people who use it and the communities we serve.”
“The Clumber Street branch is the first to feature the society’s fully rebranded identity in a physical space, with further branch upgrades scheduled in the coming months as part of a network-wide refresh.”
Holly Marshall, chief marketing and communications officer, said: “The opening of our new city centre branch marks a landmark moment in bringing our refreshed brand identity to life. Our branch design reflects the future focused modern mutual we are becoming.
“This transformation has been shaped by the voices of our colleagues and members. From initial concept to final design, we took time to listen, test and gather feedback to ensure the space reflects the evolving needs of the people who use it.
“Every design decision — from layout to accessibility — has been considered through that lens.
“The result is a branch that reaffirms our long-term commitment to the high street and the community we’ve proudly served for over 175 years.”
Sally Gaudion, chief customer officer, added: “This is a significant moment for Nottingham Building Society. A new branch in a prime city centre location that reaffirms our long-term commitment to both Nottingham and our branch network.
“We want to ensure our branch network continues to meet the needs of our customers, remains highly valued by our members, and plays an integral part in the communities that we are serving.
“We know how much our members value face-to-face service, and we’re proud to continue offering choice through modern, accessible spaces like this. Crucially, this branch has been shaped by the input of our colleagues and members to ensure it delivers what they need, both today and into the future.”
Robin Fieth, chief executive, Building Societies Association, concluded: “At a time when banks are reducing their branch networks and leaving high streets, Nottingham Building Society’s investment into its branch network serves as a timely reminder of the vital role building societies play in local communities.
“250 years since building societies were first established, they remain true to their roots by continuing to enable homeownership, build financial resilience and support communities.”
