WPH to deliver 102 social rent homes for women in Ealing

Women’s Pioneer Housing (WPH) celebrated a milestone as construction at Brooke House in Ealing reached the final storey.

The topping out ceremony was attended by resident board members, WPH staff, Ealing council and partners.

The scheme will see 39 outdated homes replaced with 102 homes in a fifteen-storey tower, all to be let at social rent.

The estate, now called Brooke House, is named after Emma Brooke, a writer and campaigner for women’s rights.

The homes are aimed at single women struggling with the cost of housing, addressing issues caused by the gender pay gap and the pressure of London’s housing crisis.

Tracey Downie, CEO at WPH, said: “Women’s Pioneer Housing has worked for more than 100 years with single women, including in Ealing, and we strongly believe that providing more good-quality, affordable homes for women is critically important, particularly during this cost-of-living and energy crisis.

“This new building will provide a real home for many single women in dire need.

“We are more than just ‘bricks and mortar’ – we support our residents’ independence, and this new building will provide a real home for many women who face acute housing insecurity.”

Ealing Council Leader Peter Mason supported the planning application and attended the event.

Mason said: “The 102 new flats being built at Brook House will provide a safe, secure, genuinely affordable place to call home for some of the hundreds of women on the waiting list for social housing in our borough.

“London’s affordable housing crisis disproportionately impacts women, who still face a gender pay gap that sees them on average earn less than men, these flats will be a lifeline for women who are unable to privately rent.”

L&Q supported WPH through planning, design and delivery, and helped speed up the commissioning process for specialist women’s housing.

Completion is expected in June 2026, with residents set to move in shortly after.
