Family-owned developer City & Country has partnered with Forest, London’s most sustainable shared e-bike operator, to provide residents at its Wandsworth development with a year of free travel credits.
The initiative, a first for City & Country, will see buyers who reserve a home at The 1840, St George’s Gardens in August receive 12 months of Forest Bike credits when they move in.
The scheme is designed to encourage residents to embrace environmentally friendly commuting and leisure travel from the outset.
City & Country, which specialises in restoring heritage buildings and developing sustainable housing, said the initiative forms part of its wider drive to reduce its carbon footprint and reach Net Zero by 2050.
The company prioritises reusing existing buildings, minimising new material extraction, and improving energy efficiency across its projects.
The 1840 development sits within Springfield Village, which includes 32 acres of parkland, making it London’s second-largest new park.
The site combines historic restoration with contemporary sustainable living, offering residents access to green spaces, private gardens, and transport links including Tooting Bec Station and Wandsworth Common.
Forest, which completes over 1.2 million rides per month in London, operates the only shared e-bike fleet in the city that runs on 100% renewable electricity.
Its servicing vans are also fully electric, giving the business no Scope 1 or 2 emissions.
The company offsets its Scope 3 emissions through a partnership with a UK charity that plants giant sequoia trees in Wales.
Forest is one of only two micromobility firms globally to achieve B Corp certification.
Shelley West, group sales and marketing director at City & Country, said: “Aligning with a brand like Forest felt like an obvious corporate partnership for us. At City & Country, we are constantly exploring new ways to enhance our residents’ lifestyles while reducing our environmental impact.
“We hope this new collaboration will mean our residents get the choice to embrace sustainable travel options from the moment they move in.”
Jamie Richards, vice president of sales at Forest, added: “We’re thrilled to partner with City & Country to bring our sustainable and user-friendly e-bikes to residents of The 1840, St George’s Garden.
“This collaboration makes it easier for residents to embrace a more active lifestyle, commute sustainably, and explore their local area with the freedom and convenience that our e-bikes offer.”
The 1840, restored from a former hospital building, is surrounded by eight acres of private gardens and close to central London via fast rail links, with journeys to London Bridge taking just 18 minutes.
City & Country has over 60 years of experience in restoring historic and listed buildings and currently has residential projects across England and Scotland.
It has won more than 110 industry awards, including Housebuilder of the Year at the 2024 WhatHouse? Awards.
Forest was founded by Agustin Guilisasti, formerly of Cabify, alongside Caroline Seton and Michael Stewart.
It is among the first micromobility companies in the world to be B Corp accredited and has also achieved Verra validation.
