Tandem Bank surpasses £800m in green home improvement lending

Tandem Bank has passed £800m in cumulative home improvement lending, with over 165,000 projects supported since 2019.

The milestone reflects a more than 850% increase in loan originations over the period, rising from £68.2m to £801.5m.

Of this, 94% has gone to green lending, backing energy-efficient technologies and upgrades in UK homes.

The bank has funded more than 21,000 solar installations, representing a 40-fold increase since 2019, as well as more than 104,000 energy-efficient boilers.

Uptake of air source heat pumps has grown 58 times, while doors, windows and insulation improvements have also increased steadily.

Julian Nutley, managing director of home improvement loans at Tandem, said: “We’re thrilled to see the continued success in our home improvement lending business.

“With households adopting low-carbon technologies at record levels in the first half of the year, we saw application volumes rise nearly 20% in July compared to the previous six-month average – clear evidence that more customers are choosing Tandem to fund sustainable upgrades to their properties.”

The bank has also broken into the Sunday Times Tech 100 list at number 27 and achieved Gold accreditation from Investor in Customers.

Under its new chief executive Neil Chandler, Tandem said it will continue to focus on profitable growth while broadening access to greener consumer choices.
