The Association of Financial Mutuals has appointed Andy Morris, chief executive of Cirencester Friendly, as chair of the AFM board.
Previously vice-chair of the board, he takes over from Ann-Marie O’Dea who is standing down ahead of her retirement from Shepherds Friendly Society where she was chief executive.
Sophia Reed, mutual manager at both Activities Industry Mutual and the Fire & Rescue Indemnity Company, has also been appointed as vice-chair of the board.
Morris said: “I’m thrilled to take on the role of Chair at such a pivotal moment for financial
mutuals.
“The government’s ambition to double the size of the sector presents a unique opportunity to champion the values that set mutuals apart — putting members first, delivering long-term value, and delivering exceptional service.
“I look forward to working with colleagues across the sector to seize this moment and help mutuals thrive as a vital part of the UK’s financial services landscape.
“Along with the rest of the board, I want to take this opportunity to thank Ann-Marie for
the great contribution she has made to the AFM over the years and wish her all the very
best for the future.
“I am also looking forward to continuing to work closely with Sophia Reed in her new role
as vice-chair of the AFM board.”
Reed added: “I am delighted to be appointed as Vice-Chair of the AFM Board at such an exciting time for our sector.
“I am look forward to working closely with the rest of the Board and our members to support the continued growth and resilience of financial mutuals across the UK.
“As a representative of smaller mutuals, I’m particularly passionate about ensuring that the voices of all AFM’s members are heard and valued.”
