Atom bank expands mortgage team following move to Newcastle headquarters

Atom bank has officially completed its move from Durham to the Pattern Shop in Newcastle, marking a major milestone in its growth journey and commitment to the North East.

The relocation supports the digital bank’s ongoing expansion, innovation strategy, and hybrid working policy.

Following the move, Atom is creating new opportunities across the business, including two new roles within its residential and commercial mortgage teams.

The commercial lending team will add a delivery lead to drive innovation and improve the speed of case processing, while the residential team will recruit an associate pricing and trade manager to help refine pricing strategies and maintain the bank’s competitive position in the market.

The move also strengthens Atom’s local presence. Through its Early Careers Programme and Atom Futures Fund, the bank continues to support social mobility and education in the North East, offering financial assistance to students from low-income backgrounds and those in care.

It also sponsors two AMI Women in Technology Scholarships at Durham University and runs a Graduate Scheme offering placements across finance, technology, and business operations.

Atom is currently recruiting for nearly 30 new roles across departments including engineering, data, and customer support, with 14 openings in its operations team alone.

The bank said the expansion will help attract top regional talent and further boost the local economy.

Mark Mullen, CEO of Atom bank, said: “Our move to the Pattern Shop isn’t just a change of address; it’s a bold statement about our future and our belief in the North East.

“We’re investing in a space that celebrates our region’s industrial past while providing a modern, flexible, and inspiring home for our people.

“This new chapter will help us attract top talent and continue to challenge the status quo, proving that a truly innovative and profitable business can thrive right here in the North East.”
