L&Q’s housing programme has picked up the Public Sector Leadership Award at the Social Value Awards for its work in local communities.
In 2023, L&Q signed contracts with 10 partners to run its major works investment programme, a £3bn, 15-year project to improve safety, quality and environmental efficiency in residents’ homes.
Social value was included as part of the procurement, measured using a standard framework.
L&Q and its partners generated £74.9m in social value, created more than 337 jobs, supported community projects and funded five university scholarships for residents.
The programme has been used to create socio-economic opportunities and build community cohesion in the areas served.
David Lewis, executive group director of property and investment at L&Q, said: “I couldn’t be prouder of our Community Development team, for their hard work ensuring Social Value remains a priority while we deliver improvements to residents’ homes.
“Residents deserve to live in communities they feel proud of, and working alongside our Major Works Investment Programme partners to deliver on our Social Value commitments is an integral part of this.
“This result showcases how procurement and investment, when purpose-driven, can transform lives and communities, as well as homes.”
Lewis added: “It also reflects the incredible teamwork and dedication both within L&Q, and alongside our partners.”
