Vistry partners with First Choice Homes Oldham to deliver 147 affordable homes

Vistry Group has partnered with First Choice Homes Oldham to deliver 147 affordable homes on the brownfield site of the former Oldham Mumps Railway Station, subject to planning permission.

The land, owned by Oldham Borough Council and Transport for Greater Manchester, will be redeveloped by Vistry, with First Choice Homes Oldham set to make 98 of the homes available for social rent, 40 for Shared Ownership and nine for rent-to-buy.

The homes are planned to meet the Government’s Future Homes Standard, aiming to cut carbon emissions by 75% to 80% compared to current requirements.

This will be done through low-carbon heating systems and improved insulation.

The site, known as Southlink, is located in Oldham town centre and has been vacant since the railway closed in 2009.

It benefits from strong transport links, with the Mumps Metrolink station nearby.

The scheme will receive grant funding from both Greater Manchester Combined Authority and Homes England.

Matthew Parkes, managing director at Vistry Manchester and Cheshire East, said: “We’re thrilled to have been selected for this important project, which aligns perfectly with our mission to deliver high-quality, affordable homes that meet the needs of local communities.

“This development not only revitalises a long-vacant brownfield site but also provides sustainable, energy-efficient homes in the heart of Oldham.”

Mark Gifford, CEO of First Choice Homes Oldham, said: “FCHO is delighted to be partnering with Vistry Group to deliver Oldham’s next flagship housing scheme and our biggest ever development.

“Southlink is an exciting and financially strong project and, if granted planning permission, will create much-needed family homes people can afford to rent or buy and be proud of.

“Doing so will help meet Oldham’s housing priorities, especially in regards to social rents, and support community wellbeing, sustainability, and opportunity.”

Gifford added: “Southlink also supports the Council’s ambitions for a fairer, greener, and more prosperous borough.”
