A new draft local plan for Derby will be presented to cabinet on 12th November to seek approval for public consultation.
The plan sets out to deliver 12,500 new homes by 2043, with around 5,500 planned for the city centre and more sites identified in Littleover, Chaddesden, Spondon and Mickleover.
The remainder of the city’s housing needs will be met through agreements with South Derbyshire and Amber Valley.
The plan allocates 130 hectares of land for employment, mainly in key areas like Infinity Park Derby.
It also includes changes to green wedge boundaries to create new green gaps.
Shiraz Khan, Cabinet Member for Housing, Strategic Planning and Regulatory Services at Derby City Council, said: “This new Local Plan for Derby has been designed to address the needs of our city both now and for the future, and ensure we meet the targets set by the Government.
“These documents are crucial for guiding our developments, encouraging investment and economic development, and implementing protections for the environment.
“Therefore, the next step will be to consult on these proposals to ensure they meet local needs.”
The proposals will be reviewed by the Cabinet at the meeting on 12th November.
