Habiko launches community consultation on 350 affordable homes in Chester

Habiko has started a three-week community conversation on its plans for up to 350 new affordable homes at Charterhall Drive in Chester city centre.

The joint venture, set up with Homes England and Pension Insurance Corporation at the end of 2024, is focused on building low-carbon, low-energy homes in places where they are needed, close to jobs and transport.

The proposed development will be on a brownfield site next to the station, with easy walking and cycling access to the canal and city centre.

The plans include 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom apartments, set around a central landscaped garden, and aim to create a low-car residential area.

The design will reference the site’s industrial heritage as Chester’s former leadworks.

Ella Woodward, development manager at Habiko, said: “We’re proud to be launching the very first community conversation for Habiko, marking an important step in bringing people into the heart of our plans.

“Our proposals for Charterhall Drive will deliver high-quality, affordable homes in a sustainable, central location.

“By introducing a broader mix of housing options, we’re working to meet the diverse needs of local residents and support a more inclusive city centre.”

Woodward added: “We’re inviting the community to share their views and help shape plans that reflect local priorities and aspirations.”

The public can take part in the conversation until 20th November.

Habiko will review all feedback before preparing a full planning application for submission to Cheshire West and Chester Council.
