Kier and Zero Gravity partner to support young people into construction

Kier has started a year-long partnership with tech start-up Zero Gravity to help young people get into the construction industry.

Kier staff will mentor Zero Gravity students, showing them what jobs are available and advising on career steps.

Support will include in-person and online events, giving students a look at opportunities at Kier and encouraging them to apply for work experience and entry-level roles.

Zero Gravity uses technology to improve social mobility across the UK, aiming to help young people from any background reach their potential.

In the first weeks of the programme, Kier spoke to 673 students using the Zero Gravity platform, with 43 Kier staff signing up to mentor.

The partnership began this month with a ‘Pitch your Profession’ masterclass, where Kier staff gave insights to Zero Gravity students.

Louisa Finlay, chief people officer at Kier, said: “At Kier we believe that a diverse workforce which reflects the communities we serve helps us to think differently, solve problems and drive innovation.

“We want to find ways to create opportunities for everyone, both at Kier and in the wider construction industry.

“Zero Gravity does fantastic work supporting young people to achieve their ambitions and we’re proud to be working with them to show the next generation how varied and rewarding a career in construction can be.”
