The Regulator of Social Housing (RSH) and the Charity Commission have set out how they will keep working together in a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The MoU explains how information will be shared and how issues that concern both organisations will be handled.
Both organisations said the MoU is about making sure they work together efficiently.
The MoU includes commitments to share information to help each other with their regulatory duties, raise important issues early, signpost enquiries to the right organisation, and discuss matters of joint interest including talking to stakeholders and keeping communication consistent.
They also agreed to avoid duplication and give consistent treatment to organisations regulated by both bodies, as far as possible.
The MoU will be reviewed every three years, or sooner if there are major changes to laws or policies.
Fiona MacGregor, CEO of the RSH, said: “We recognise the importance of working together with the Charity Commission to achieve both our respective objectives.
“This memorandum of understanding gives clarity over how we will share information with each other, which is important for a collaborative and effective working relationship.”
David Holdsworth, CEO of the Charity Commission, said: “This is an important commitment from both of our respective bodies.
“Charities are a vital part of the social housing sector, helping their beneficiaries access housing which meets their needs.
“By working together within our respective remits, we can help ensure the effective regulation of organisations which are both registered charities and registered social housing providers, including when concerns arise.”
