Sarah Tucker launches ‘On The Ladder’ web series to boost FTB knowledge

Sarah Tucker (pictured), founder of The Mortgage Mum and a regular media commentator on housing and finance, has launched an educational YouTube series entitled, ‘On The Ladder’.

The series, which premieres at 10:00am on Monday 24th November, is aimed at helping first-time buyers (FTBs) better understand the mortgage options available to them amid what Tucker describes as a growing gap between lender innovation and public awareness.

Recent research has revealed that eight in 10 university students believe homeownership is out of reach, despite a wave of new lender initiatives such as 100% mortgages, family-assisted products, revised affordability models, Deposit Unlock, Own New and various incentives for new-build properties.

Tucker, who has previously advised policymakers at Downing Street, said the issue is not a lack of products but a lack of understanding.

She said: “Lenders have innovated significantly over the last 18 months, but the average first-time buyer has no idea these solutions exist.

“I see this every week — whether I’m speaking on ITV’s This Morning, advising policymakers at Downing Street, or talking to customers.

“The message people hear is that buying is impossible. The reality is more nuanced, and this series is designed to bring clarity back into the conversation.”

The launch comes at a time of heightened government attention on housing access, planning reform, SME housebuilding and financial education.

Tucker has contributed to national discussions across these areas through both media and policy engagement.

Each episode of ‘On The Ladder’ focuses on a core stage of the homebuying journey, featuring perspectives from estate agents, solicitors, advisers and industry specialists, including Mortgage Mum senior adviser Gemma Bennett.

Topics covered include deposit routes and low-deposit schemes, 100% and family-supported mortgages, new-build incentives, affordability options, the legal process and negotiation tips.

Tucker said the aim is to give prospective buyers clearer, more accurate information at a time when many rely heavily on headlines and social media.

She added: “Consumers are getting their information from headlines, soundbites and social media.

“As an industry, we have a responsibility to communicate clearly. T

“his series brings the right voices into the room — advisers, lenders, estate agents, solicitors — and speaks in a way the public can actually understand.”
