Holiday-let hotspots deliver strong winter income, research finds

New figures from Sykes Holiday Cottages showed that some UK regions offered holiday let owners strong, reliable income even outside peak seasons.

The data found that destinations such as the Cotswolds, Peak District, Cumbria and the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, and Central Scotland generated thousands of pounds from winter bookings alone.

The Cotswolds delivered the highest average annual revenue at £29,000, with £4,600 coming from winter bookings.

Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow-on-the-Wold, and Burford are the top earning areas.

In the Peak District, owners earned £26,800 a year on average, including £4,500 from winter stays.

Leek, Bakewell and Castleton were the most popular locations.

For Cumbria and the Lake District, average annual income was £27,400, with £3,900 from winter bookings.

Grasmere, Coniston, and Bowness-on-Windermere led in turnover.

Yorkshire Dales owners earned £23,400 a year on average, with £3,800 from winter lets.

Central Scotland saw an average annual income of £25,200, with £3,300 from winter months.

James Shaw, chief commercial officer at Sykes Holiday Cottages, said: “To help prospective owners identify destinations with dependable, all-season appeal, we’ve compiled a ranking of the UK best regions for winter income.

“These locations are proven, year-round earners that continue to deliver strong returns whatever the season.

“We’re increasingly hearing from prospective owners who are keen to understand how their property can perform beyond the summer months. But it’s important to remember that it’s not just location that plays a part.”

Shaw added: “There are also changes that can be made to a property to attract more winter bookings.

“From adding cosy features like log burners and hot tubs, to ensuring excellent insulation and creating inviting outdoor spaces, small touches can make a big difference to winter appeal.”
