Solihull

Solihull identified as England’s most peaceful place to live – Sell House Fast

Solihull ranked as the calmest area in England, with a sensory disturbance score of 2.28 out of 10, according to research by Sell House Fast

Noise complaints were among the lowest at 2.7 per 1,000 people, and greenhouse gas emissions were well below the national average at 6.1 kt CO₂e per km².

Only 9.3% of land experienced artificial light at night.

The borough had no sewage works, compared with almost five per square kilometre in Newham.

Two-thirds of Solihull was designated as Green Belt land, which limited large-scale development and helped maintain its quiet character.

Wiltshire came second, with a score of 2.31.

Noise complaints were at 0.9 per 1,000 people and greenhouse gas emissions were 0.9 kt CO₂e per km².

Only 0.1% of land was affected by bright light.

Wiltshire remained largely rural, with over 80% of its land used for farming, leading to fewer tall buildings and less artificial lighting.

Peterborough was third, scoring 2.40.

Noise complaints stood at 1.6 per 1,000 people and greenhouse gas emissions were 3.1 kt CO₂e per km².

Only 1.1% of the area showed the highest levels of night-time light.

Other local authorities in the top 10 included South Gloucestershire, Bromley, St. Helens, Wokingham, Shropshire, Wigan, and Cheshire West and Chester.

Each scored below 3.1 on the sensory disturbance scale, with low levels of noise complaints, light pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions.
