Octopus Energy has launched a dashboard showing how its Cosy heat pumps perform in homes across Britain.

The Cosy Heat Pump Fleet Performance Dashboard uses data from thousands of homes and shows how efficient the systems are.

The heat pumps include sensors for temperature and humidity.

The dashboard uses anonymised data from homes and found that over the last month Cosy systems produced over 4 kWh of heat for every 1 kWh of energy used, with a coefficient of performance (COP) of 4.11.

The average COP for a gas boiler is 0.85, meaning Cosy heat pumps run at about 4.7-times the efficiency of gas boilers.

The dashboard also breaks down the data by region, so users can see how much heat is delivered for each kWh of energy across Great Britain.

The annual average performance (SPF) was 3.68, with 80% of Cosy heat pumps proving cheaper to run over the last year than gas boilers.

Customers on the Cosy Octopus tariff saved an average of £219 a year compared to those with gas boilers.

Switching to heat pumps could be a practical step to meet new energy standards and reduce costs for tenants, according to Octopus.

Greg Jackson, CEO and founder of Octopus Energy, said: “We’re launching this revolutionary data dashboard to prove, in perpetuity, that heat pumps cost less to run than a gas boiler.

“This isn’t a projection or a lab test – it’s daily data from thousands of homes.
