Cambridge Building Society awards £10,000 grant to Reach Community Projects
Reach Community Projects has received a £10,000 grant from The Cambridge Building Society Community Fund to expand face-to-face support for people experiencing financial hardship and social isolation across South Cambridgeshire.
Reach Community Projects has secured a £10,000 grant from The Cambridge Building Society Community Fund to help fund a dedicated Community Adviser supporting people across South Cambridgeshire.
The funding will enable the charity to provide tailored one-to-one support in people’s homes, community centres and churches, helping individuals and families identify the assistance they need and connect with services aimed at improving their wellbeing, financial stability and independence. Reach supports people facing challenges including the rising cost of living, rural isolation and financial hardship.

Reach Community Projects is providing practical, face-to-face support that helps people overcome challenges and improve their wellbeing.
“Through our Community Fund, we’re proud to support organisations that strengthen local communities and create lasting positive change. This funding will enable Reach to continue delivering vital support to people across South Cambridgeshire.”
The grant will allow the Haverhill-based charity to spend more time supporting people, offering practical help and ongoing guidance until they are able to move forward with greater confidence and independence.
Helena Burley, fundraising manager at Reach Community Projects, said: “The difference we try to offer people is hope. Many people across our communities are facing hidden hardship, and it’s often not until you sit with someone in their home that you fully understand the challenges they’re living with.
“We’re there for people for as long as they need us, helping them access the right support, overcome barriers and see that there is a positive future ahead. This funding means we can continue providing that personal, face-to-face support that changes lives.”
Ann Allen, benefits adviser at Reach Community Projects, added: “This funding is brilliant because it means we can go out and see more people. When we visit someone, we don’t just deal with the immediate issue – we often uncover other challenges that need support too.
“Recently, we worked with someone who was extremely anxious about contacting the Jobcentre. By sitting alongside her during the call, helping her access additional funding and arranging practical support at home, we saw her confidence begin to grow. Having the time to provide that kind of personalised support is what makes the real difference.”
The grant forms part of The Cambridge Building Society’s Community Fund, a twice-yearly programme that awards up to £20,000 to charities, community groups and organisations operating within a 15-mile radius of the society’s branch and store network.
