Lender approval named most stressful part of mortgage process
Boon Brokers research found 88% of recent UK borrowers found their most recent mortgage application stressful, with waiting for lender approval identified as the most stressful stage.
Waiting for lender approval is the most stressful part of the mortgage application process, according to new research from Boon Brokers.
The mortgage broker surveyed 1,000 recent UK borrowers in July 2026 to understand which parts of the application process caused the most stress.
The research found 88% of borrowers said their most recent mortgage application was stressful.
Borrowers identified mortgage lenders as causing more stress than any other party involved in the mortgage application process.
Stress levels were particularly high among younger borrowers, with 59% of those aged 18 to 24 saying their mortgage application was very or extremely stressful.
The research also looked at how borrower experiences differed by age, gender, region and city.
Boon Brokers found survey and valuation stress was highest in South East England.
London borrowers were most likely to identify survey and valuation issues as the most stressful part of the process.
