Blackpool boasts highest number of fixer-upper properties, data finds

Blackpool had the highest number of fixer-upper properties in July 2026, with more than one in 10 homes listed as needing work, according to findings from The Property Buying Company.

Most were houses, with 58 requiring modernisation, repairs or cosmetic work, and 13 were flats.
Huddersfield came second, with 10.8% of homes listed as fixer-uppers.
There were 75 fixer-uppers out of 693 homes for sale, with 71 being houses and four flats.
Burnley was third, with 9.8% of properties needing work, which equalled 37 out of 378 homes. All of these were houses.
Swansea and Stoke-on-Trent both had 9.6% of properties marked as fixer-uppers.
Hull had 9.1%, Leicester 8.1%, Middlesbrough 7.9%, Oxford 7.6%, and York 7.5%.
Analysis found that Aberdeen had the highest proportion of fixer-upper flats.
Out of 34 fixer-upper properties for sale, 26 were flats.
Dundee followed, with 64.3% of fixer-upper homes listed as flats, while Glasgow had 60.7%.
Edinburgh, Brighton, Bournemouth, Newcastle upon Tyne, Southampton, Milton Keynes and Southend-on-Sea also featured in the top 10.
