Propertymark to host webinar on new damp and mould rules in Scotland
The online session will run from 2pm to 3pm on 1st October 2026.
Propertymark will host a webinar on new damp and mould rules for rented homes in Scotland.
The online session will run from 2pm to 3pm on 1st October 2026, before the Investigation and Commencement of Repair (Scotland) Regulations 2026 take effect on 6th October.
The regulations will require landlords to investigate reports of damp and mould, give tenants a written summary and begin any required repairs within set periods.
Scottish Government guidance said investigations should normally take place within 10 working days.
A written summary should be provided within three working days of the investigation ending, with repairs starting within five working days.
The webinar will cover reporting, inspections, record keeping, property access, contractor availability and the use of specialists.
It will be chaired by Hazel MacIver, policy and campaigns officer at Propertymark.
The panel will include Miles Gilham, managing director at Glenham Property; Rory Cowan, partner and commercial and property litigator at Bannatyne, Kirkwood, France & Co; and Timothy Douglas, head of policy and campaigns at Propertymark.
The session will also cover heating, ventilation and moisture, as well as the responsibilities of landlords and tenants.
Hazel MacIver, policy and campaigns officer at Propertymark, said: “The new damp and mould regulations introduce clear timescales, but for agents the practical questions are just as important as the legal requirements.
“How do you respond when a report comes in? Who is competent to investigate?
“What happens when the cause is not immediately obvious, or when a repair cannot be completed within the required timeframe?”
MacIver added: “This webinar is designed to get into those practical considerations and give agents the opportunity to hear directly from legal, policy and industry experts, as well as raise their own questions.”
The webinar will also look at changes under the Housing (Scotland) Act 2025.
From 6th October, compensation for wrongful termination claims will rise to between three and 36 months’ rent.
The minimum award will be £840 where the monthly rent is lower.
The period a qualifying person must have lived in a property before succeeding to a tenancy will also fall from 12 months to six months.
The webinar will also provide a broader look at how Scottish letting agents can keep on top of a rapidly changing regulatory environment and ensure that their procedures, teams and landlords are prepared.
