Over the 12 months to July, 44,781 new agreements were recorded, up 17% compared with the previous 12-month period.

The value of new business reached £2.38bn over the same period, an annual increase of 25%.

Fiona Hoyle, director of consumer finance & mortgages and inclusion at the FLA, said: “The second charge mortgage market continued to grow in July, although at a more modest pace than earlier in the year. Looking ahead, the prospect of market interest rates remaining higher for longer may continue to temper demand.
