The Intermediary spoke with Peter Barton of Barton Law following the firm’s recent win at the Later Life Lending Awards.
Congratulations on winning Best Legal Firm at the inaugural Later Life Lending Awards; how important is getting this recognition to you?
This is enormous for us, we are delighted as we feel it is a real reflection of the hard work we have put in since the launch of Barton Law in June and we feel it is the market recognising this.
What do you think sets your business apart from others in the field?
Communication – we have been focusing on ensuring first-class levels of communication to clients and advisers throughout a lifetime mortgage.
How important is it to recognise achievement in the sector?
I think it is crucial to recognise excellence as a beacon for your peers to see what level of service has to be reached to deliver an all-round exceptional level of service to clients and advisers
Looking ahead how do you see the next 12 months playing out for the later life market?
I think to market will change to smaller loans with larger reserves, more necessity borrowing rather than luxury borrowing.
What advice would you give to someone looking to join the market?
Join AIR and do their exams, work closely with the amazing AIR team. However experienced you think you are, AIR are at another level and their knowledge and experience will help hugely.
How do you rate your chances of defending your win next year?
We can only look to our own offering, it is impossible to tell, but we are determined to offer the highest levels of service to advisers and clients alike.
