Carlos Thibaut, formerly CEO of 360Dotnet Ltd, is to become the new chair of the Society of Mortgage Professionals from the end of the year.
Mr Thibaut, who was group managing director of Lifetime Group before his role as CEO of customer relationship management software provider 360Dotnet Ltd, first joined the board of the Society of Mortgage Professionals in 2019.
He replaces David Thomas, who is stepping down from the role after two years.
David Thomas, joint managing partner of Chadney Bulgin, said: “I was honoured to be invited to take the Inaugural chair of the Society of Mortgage Professionals some two years ago, during which time we have created a clear structure while steering through a pandemic.
“I’m delighted to pass the Chair to Carlos, who I know will drive the Society further forward.”
When asked about his plans for the Society of Mortgage Professionals, Thibaut said: “Following the illustrious David Thomas as chair of the Society of Mortgage Professionals will be a considerable challenge but one that I’m looking forward to.
“We have an important role to play in supporting and promoting professionalism. Championing the benefits of seeking out professional advice must be at the heart of what we do.
“We have an extremely talented, experienced and skilled board and I am genuinely excited about the opportunities for advisers, professional advice and the Society over the coming years.”
Alongside Thibaut’s appointment, Liz Syms, CEO of Connect Mortgages and Connect for Intermediaries, has been named as vice-chair of the Society of Mortgage Professionals.
In 2012 Syms set up the specialist mortgage network Connect for Intermediaries, which supports more than 250 mortgage advisers who operate not only in the mainstream market but also provide advice in specialist areas such as complex buy-to-let, commercial and bridging.
Liz Syms, vice-chair of the Society of Mortgage Professionals, said: “Helping advisers to increase their skills and professionalism while championing the consumer is the key aim and differentiator of the Society of Mortgage Professionals.
“I am really pleased to be part of the board and I am looking forward as the vice-chair to supporting Carlos, to increase the profile of the good work that the Society does.”
Mark Hutchinson, membership director of the CII Group, said: “I would like to thank David for his excellent work with the Society of Mortgage Professionals and shaping the professional body’s support for the advice community during the challenging times of the last two years.”
“I look forward to working with Carlos and Liz as they continue to deepen our engagement with the mortgage advice community and further strengthen the relevant and insightful support and learning we offer the sector.”
The Society of Mortgage Professionals is a professional body dedicated to those working within the mortgage sector.
The society provides CPD, good practice guidance and offers members the opportunity to give back to their local community through pro-bono initiatives such as Forces Moneyplan.
