Cumberland Building Society fuels growth of father-daughter holiday let enterprise

Father-daughter business duo, Mark Largan and Samantha Largan, are reaping the rewards of their successful holiday let venture, thanks to ongoing support from the Cumberland Building Society. Starting in 2017, the Largan’s enterprise has now burgeoned into a six-property portfolio.

Originating from Hertfordshire, Mark and Samantha purchased their first property, Kelmscot, in June 2017, after a personal loss. Samantha, a surveyor with a passion for interior design, furnished the property to a high standard, leading to its success as a holiday let.

Following this success, the Largans set their sights on a property in Little Pethererick, near Padstow, and reached out to the Cumberland Building Society for a second holiday let mortgage. They also completed the refurbishment of Rose Lodge, a grade 2 listed building between Truro and Falmouth.

“The Cumberland have been pivotal in supporting our business and helping it to grow,” Mark said, highlighting the direct contact with staff who listened to their vision and worked with them to realise it.

Linda Slinger, intermediary relationship manager at the Cumberland, emphasised the society’s relationship-managed approach to commercial lending, which entails taking a holistic view of each case and allocating a relationship manager to each customer.

The Largan’s business, Largan Estates, has since expanded into Porlock, Somerset, and Devon, with further properties in Devon and Somerset in their sights.

The Cumberland Building Society has recently appointed a new head of intermediary iending, Grant Seaton, to support more people in realising their business dreams. Seaton said: “It is an exciting time for The Cumberland as we ramp up our efforts in delivering a quality service to our trusted mortgage broker partners, whilst providing working solutions for the end customer.”
